Educational Materials

The Body Positive's educational materials were created with the philosophy that the best way to reach people is through the voices of their peers. With this in mind, our documentaries predominantly feature speakers in the same age range as the intended audience. The DVDs introduce both youth and adults to the Be Body Positive Health® Model competencies. The curriculum for ages 5-9 and 9-12 provide students with an opportunity to deepen the discussion of the issues.Note: Curriculum for the BodyTalk DVD for Teens is underway, as is an extended, comprehensive curricula for all age groups. Contact Connie Sobczak if you are interested in being informed when the new curricula is completed. It will be useful for working with youth in a variety of settings, including classrooms, afterschool programs, and youth groups.

"We started using The Body Positive curriculum with our teens in the Weight Management Program here at MultiCare Health System. It is a fantastic tool for helping teens and parents understand the complexities of these issues from a strengths-based, non-dieting, positive body image approach. The curriculum enforces that the focus should be on improving health behaviors, not numbers on the scale. Our teens found it very empowering. In this current time of the "Childhood Obesity Epidemic," there need to be programs like The Body Positive in various settings (schools, hospitals, community centers) that change the primary intervention strategy from a personal responsibility, or shame/blame approach, to a compassionate/strengths-based one."
